Road to MotoGP?

MALAYSIAN Cub Prix championship or popularly known as Cub Prix amongst local motorsports enthusiasts is back on the track. Actually, it has been in the Malaysian sports calendar for more than 10 years now. When it was first borned, it was organised in a small scale but it keep growing, building it's own reputation as the one and only motorbike racing event in the country. The objective to organise is very clear - to provide platform for 'Mat Rempit' a better and safer place to race.
From time to time, the event continued to gain popularity. Today, Cub Prix is a a different ball game.
It's a place to scout talents who will be exposed to a higher level motor racing - the MotoGP. That's the priority.
Result has been produced. (Tough a bit late) but Cub Prix riders has already started to hit headlines at the world scene.
This year, Mohd. Zulfahmi (pix bottom) already stepped into the world MotoGP. He is the product of Cub Prix and will be racing full season in MotoGP (125cc). I think more will stepped into the world scene next year as there's plenty of talents especially Hafizh who displayed great skills in the opening race in Alor Setar, Kedah last month.
With Zulfahmi already in the world race, i strongly believed that our local riders are as good as Valentino Rossi but....they must be given a regular place in the world event. There must be continuity and sponsors must be brave to invest, to ensure local riders appeared permanently at international level. Rossi started it from the bottom but he made regular appearance in MotoGP. The experiences he gained, enable him to dominate the race and of course became the world champion. I believe, if our local riders had those kind of chances, especially Zulfahmi, he would conquer the world in the next five years.
Sponsors do not have to worry actually, as there's plenty of talent around...and Cub Prix had it all.
If we want to see more riders stepped into the world race, my suggestion is to give Cub Prix organisers (Two Wheel Motor Racing) a bigger role in scouting talents.
Lets make our local race - Malaysian Cub Prix as center of excellence for motor racing, similar to the one introduced by Ministry of Youth and Sports - Road to London, a programme aimed to achieve gold at Olympic Games.
Why not make Cub Prix as 'Road to MotoGP'? I think Ministry of Sports need to give supports if they want to see more Malaysian stand tall at the world scene.
Today (17 April) the second round of the event will 'broom' all their way in Kluang. Excitement is on the card and local motor sports enthusiasts should not missed the chance to watch. Not only the riders, but the grid girls (pix top) will also the attraction of the race. I think, if the Sports Minister, Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek watched the race, he should have ideas on how to help develop the event become as one of the national sports agendas. Well Datuk, this event gathered thousand of youths and its a good venue to promote 1Malaysia as well as encouraging our youngsters to involve actively in a healthy activities. Cub Prix played their role to curve 'Mat Rempit', and this is also one of the agendas in KBS - to curve 'Merempit'. Shame to see we do not have riders in the world scene, afterall, we have a great racing track in the country - Sepang International Circuit. So, time to produce. As the saying goes, 'It's better late than never'.....
